Drew Bryce’s rib and lung injuries turned out to be more serious than originally thought, with the New Orleans Saints star revealed on Saturday that he had 11 rib fractures, according to ESPN.
That number is higher than the initial diagnosis of five broken Brees quarterback ribs, which also had a lung collapse, ESPN reported. Additional tests showed that Bryce had eight broken ribs on the left side and three on the right.
Brace came out of last week’s victory against the San Francisco 49ers at halftime with what the Saints called a rib injury suffered in a second-quarter sack from Kentavius Street, which was judged to be a rough passer. Doctors also believe he may have received some of his injuries in an earlier game, but he continued to play.
The Saints officially put Brees on their list of wounded on Friday. He was initially expected to miss three games, but the latest medical update could see him stay longer.
The 40-year-old Breeze is the all-time leader of the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns. But the Saints went 5-0 without their star caller last season when he recovered from a broken link in his throwing arm.
