9 REUTERS / Ammar Awad Saudi Arabia condemns the recognition of the US President Donald Trump for the annexation of Israel in 1981 to the Golan Heights.

"Attempts to impose a completed fact do not change the facts," the statement said. It states that the Golan Heights are "occupied Arab land in accordance with relevant international resolutions". "This will have significant negative consequences for the Middle East peace process and for the security and stability of the region," he said.

Trump, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit, looking over his shoulder during a visit to Washington, signed a proclamation Monday officially recognizing the recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli territory of the United States. Israel seized the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 in the Middle East and annexed it in 1981 in a move that was not recognized internationally. The Saudi Press Agency's report describes the statement Monday as a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law.
