If there’s one thing I’ve learned from science fiction movies this year, it’s that movies are complete garbage for predicting behavior. After a million movies like Infection and Outbreak I thought we had a pretty good idea of how people would react in a pandemic, but these movies never make up half the population, they just say, “No, family, I’m fine.”
So while I once thought I had a pretty good idea of how The planet of the monkeys The result of the experiment will be that I will keep my predictions and report the facts instead: scientists have doubled the size of monkey brains by splicing human and monkey genes, and monkeys are beginning to exhibit more human-specific behaviors than monkeys. This is according to a recent report of the experiment by German and Japanese researchers.
There is this human-specific gene called ‘ARHGAP11B’, which originated about 5 million years ago and has led to humans today. This human-specific gene is thought to be key to the expansion of the human neocortex, which is responsible for brain function such as language, perception, motor function and more. And what did they do? They came up with a way to put this gene in monkeys to see what would happen to their brands, to see if it would lead to a rapid expansion of the neocortex … and they did.
Here’s a little solid scientific language from the study with a little analysis below through Post:
They generate transgenic common marmosets, New World monkeys, that express the human-specific ARHGAP11B gene, which they do not normally have, in the developing neocortex. Japan has as high ethical standards and regulations regarding animal research and animal welfare as Germany. The brains of 101-day-old common marmoset fruits (50 days before the normal date of birth) were obtained in Japan and exported to MPI-CBG in Dresden for detailed analysis. Michael Heide explains: “We have indeed found that the neocortex of the common marmoset brain is enlarged and the brain surface is folded. His cortical plate was also thicker than normal. In addition, we can see an increased number of major radial progenitor glial progenitors in the outer subventricular area and an increased number of upper layer neurons, a neuronal type that increases with the evolution of primates. “Researchers now have functional evidence that ARHGAP11B causes an expansion of the primate neocortex. (through)
If you are wondering what happened to these fruits after their brands became superhuman? Okay, they are gone. No one knew what would happen next, and due to “unforeseen circumstances” they chose to abort the fruits of marmoset according to Post:
The neocortex is the newest part of the brain to evolve – a sign that ARHGAP11B may have caused brain growth during human evolution, researchers say.
In the end, the scientists chose to abort the monkeys because of “unpredictable consequences,” according to the report.
The study, conducted by the Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Germany and the Central Institute for Experimental Animals in Japan, is reminiscent of the 2011 film The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in which a race of genetically modified primates turned against humans. and conquer the Earth. I will now leave my imagination for a moment and note that these scientists have already established that it is possible to merge the human gene into apes, and now all that is needed to start a war Man against ape is a rich and bored billionaire to come and hire his own team of scientists to repeat this experiment.
Seriously, what’s stopping someone with unlimited resources and resources from doing this alone behind closed doors? Nothing. Of course, there are provisions against it, but has that stopped anyone from breaking the law before? No
I give less than 15 years until we find ourselves raising arms against a race of superhuman apes.
This is completely unrelated, but a few years ago we found an ancient family video when my grandmother was a small child. She told me this story about how her parents had chimpanzee pets when she was a little girl and how, since she was the youngest of 5 children, her parents occasionally made her have dinner with the chimpanzees who they stole her dresses and brought them to dinner. I always thought these were the stories of an old man who made things up and then we found this family video and alas, there she was like a little girl eating chimpanzee pets at the table. What a world.
