“This is the end of Scream, which I’m happy to announce is the official title of the next movie!” Kevin wrote, avoiding the presumption that it would be called Scream 5.

The original chapter in the franchise, written by Williamson and released in 1996, is called Scream, and the sequels follow the model of Scream 2, Scream 3 and Scream 4.

As the fifth film was revealed as a continuation of the story – with the original cast Nev Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette returning to their roles, fans speculated that it will be called Scream 5.

And many were left nervous by the news that there will now be two films in the series with the same title.

‘Yoo @kevwilliamson, we already have’ Scream ‘. Please rename the new movie to something more creative than that. I thought you would do better! a man tweets.

Someone else was raging: “Scream 5 just being called Scream ala Halloween (2018) makes me angry for reasons I don’t quite understand … I just don’t understand their reasoning. We already have Scream. And this is a masterpiece. Now my expectations are swaying on a dangerously sharp slope …

Other franchises that vaguely follow this pattern include the final destination movies and the Fast & Furious series.

The horror film Final Destination came out in 2000, followed by Final Destination 2 and 3, but decided to name the fourth film The Final Destination in 2009, although it was a sequel, not a restart. This was followed by Final Destination 5 in 2011.

The fast-paced and furious of 2001 was followed by two sequels with different names; but the fourth film, released in 2009, was titled Fast and Furious.

The Shaft franchise includes three films, all of the same name, released in 1971, 2000 and 2019.

Another ponders, “People who get angry seem to forget that Scream is meant to pay homage to horror franchises. For Scream it makes perfect sense to do so! ‘

These movies are a sequel to each other, not a remake or reboot, like Scream [2022] is a continuation of the original Scream and the subsequent follow – up.

Others were less puzzled by the revelation: “The thing is, I don’t think I have any comments on Scream 5, titled Scream. I just want this movie already! ‘

“It’s not even a big deal.” Everyone knows that this is the fifth part of the franchise, but since it goes back to the roots of the original film, calling it simply “Scream”, it’s perfectly fine! ‘

Another reflects, “People who get angry seem to forget that Scream is meant to pay homage to horror franchises. What are these ATM franchises? Restart with a title that is exactly the same as the original (ie Halloween, Candyman). It makes perfect sense for Scream to do this! ‘

There is also a separate series, also called Scream, which is currently aired for three seasons and is not related to the film franchise.

The fifth film shows the franchise, taken over by Matthew Betinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette, after original director Wes Craven died in 2015.

Williamson seems to have hinted that more movies are coming. He posted: “Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I couldn’t imagine the lasting impact it would have on you fans.

“I’m glad I went back to Woodsboro and I was scared again. I believe Wes would be so proud of the movie Matt and Tyler are making.

“I’m glad to be reunited with Neve, Courtney, David and Marley, and working with a new filmmaking team and an amazing lineup of newcomers who have come together to continue Wes’ legacy with the upcoming restart of the franchise. which I hold so dear to my heart.
