Vince Clemente of the Classic Tetris World Cup team turned to Shacknews a while ago. He published the following statement, which will soon be published on the website of the World Classic Tetris Championship.

We share with broken hearts that Jonas Neubauer, a 7-time CTWC champion, died suddenly on January 4.

Jonas was an absolute pillar of positivity and humility for our CTWC family. We could never ask for a bigger champion, role model and friend. He was kind, real, cheerful, incredibly talented and a brilliant ambassador of the game. While he was the biggest last boss, he always had the warmest heart. He will live as a legend for our community and many others around the world.

Jonas, we miss you, we love you and thank you for inspiring us to always be the best.

Rest in peace our mighty hero.

Neubauer, 38, has been competing in the 2010 classic Tetris professional chain. Shacknews has had the privilege of speaking with the seven-time 2019 Tetris World Championship champion, where he talks about his racing career, his love of Tetris, the pressure to you compete with the growing new crop of players and his appearance on ABC’s To Tell The Truth.

Shacknews will follow this story as it unfolds. We also want to extend our deepest condolences to the Neubauer family, including his wife Heather Ito.

Ozzy has been playing video games since he took his first NES controller at the age of five. Since then, he has been involved in games, only briefly retiring during his student years. But he was drawn back after spending years in QA rounds for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time pushing the Guitar Hero series to the top. Ozzy has become a big fan of platforms, puzzles, shooters and role-playing games, just to name a few genres, but he is also a huge cheater for anything that has a good, compelling story behind it. Because what are video games if you can’t enjoy a good story with a fresh Coca-Cola cherry?
