Some payments to support pandemic unemployment are being delayed



The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry has announced that it is introducing additional measures to combat fraud and identify a program to support unemployment in a pandemic following a jump in suspicious applications. Payments for new applicants are temporarily postponed until the new measures are implemented, L&I said. People who have already filed a PUA lawsuit are not affected. Plaintiffs from other unemployment benefit schemes managed by L&I are also not affected. L&I said it typically receives about 5,000 PUA requests a day. Pennsylvanians who believe their identity was stolen and used for fraud to apply for unemployment benefits report the theft online.

L&I said that people who received unemployment benefits that they did not apply for should not use the funds and return them instead. Instructions on how to get your money back are available on the Unemployment Benefit website.
