Spanish Fortnite Streamer TheGrefg breaks the record for watching Twitch for all time

Spanish Twitch Streamer David “TheGrefg” Martinez has just broken Twitch’s record for simultaneous viewers on a single channel, with 2.4 million watching him reveal his collaboration with Fortnite

The Martinez stream, which reached more than 2 million viewers, easily broke the previous record for simultaneous viewers in a separate stream set by Tyler “Ninja”

; Blevins in 2018 with 635,000 viewers.

Martinez was streaming to reveal his collaboration with Icon Series on Fortnite, a line of character skins based on top Fortnite content creators. Streams like Ninja, Lachlan Power and Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten have skins based on them in the Icon series, and now Martinez is joining the list.TheGrefg's Icon icons inspired by Dragon Ball Z.

“One of TheGrefg’s biggest streams is that it illustrates the global appeal of the medium,” StronElements CEO Doron Neer told IGN why the recording was so important. “All major live streaming platforms have significant international bases, but the presence of a similar stage of the Spanish language streamer helps to focus on the broad appeal of the industry.”

According to StreamElements, non-English streamers such as Gaules, auroplay, ibai and Rubius are ranked high in StreamElements reporting on top streamers for 2020.Martinez’s record flow shows how streaming, whether on Twitch or elsewhere, is a global phenomenon and that creators who don’t necessarily care for English-speaking audiences thrive in this global ecosystem.
