"When the facts are not on your side, your only hope is ignorance," says Stephen Colbert in his monologue on Late Show on Wednesday night. Which brought him to Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
Last month, Graham told Axios that he did not completely rule out the idea of a vote to remove Donald Trump from the presidency. "If you can show me that you know Trump actually engaged in a quid pro quo outside of the phone call, that would be very embarrassing," he told Jonathan Swan.
"Well, the records clearly show this," Colbert said of the testimony of witnesses already released by the House Intelligence Committee. "But …"
Then the host interrupted Graham's recent video, telling reporters that he would not read these transcripts. "I wrote down the whole process," he said. "I think it's a bunch of B.S."
"How tragic," Colbert replied. "Graham clearly goes through the five stages of the grief of Republican impeachment: anger, denial, will not read, cannot read, no hubble."
