Storm Chaser loses a drone, taking close-up shots of a tornado

Storm attacker Brian Emfinger took aerial footage of a tornado near the city of Yazu, Mississippi, as it approached him and his drone. Although the footage is amazing, Emfinger says the storm “caught up” with him and his drone was lost.

Emfinger is a self-described pursuer of extreme weather and storms, as long as he remembers whose interests include any form of severe or unusual weather. Emfinger has been the photographer for KATV Channel 7 in Little Rock, Arkansas for the past three years.

“Apart from chasing storms, lightning, photographing meteors and hunting waterfalls, the other thing people seem to associate with me are flying drones,”

; Emfinger wrote on his website. “I was one of the first people in the country to use drones (or UAS) to gather news. I used it mainly in weather-related news events such as floods and storm damage. “

The video of Emfinger’s “crazy shutdown”, which was originally shared on Reddit, is the result of his drone crashing into a tornado, which eventually caused him to lose contact with him as the giant system cut him off. .

“The tornado was catching me – I was close / under the drone – so unfortunately the drone failed,” says Emfinger. “The last photos he received are included here. The sound is from my controller I was holding, and you can hear the tornado – I was so close. “

Fortunately, he escaped and managed to share some of the amazing shots taken by his drone before he was lost.

Emfinger recently returned from Iceland, where he joined the thousands of people enjoying the volcanic eruption there.

In addition to the photos he shared on Twitter, Emfinger also uploaded a 45-minute video that is filled with some remarkable images of the eruption from different angles and was shot at different times of the day.
