Sometimes the truth hurts, even if you are a half-human, half-animal hybrid living in a dystopian future.
Heading to the end of the Netflix season Sweet toothGus was overwhelmed when he learned that his mother and father were not really his parents at all. In fact, the boy was created in a test tube by scientists, destroying any hope he had left in connection with his search for Birdie, the woman he believes to be his mother. The big revelation hurt the boy badly, causing him to run away, away from his new friends Bear and Tommy. But did the band reunite by the end of the season, and did Birdie survive the surviving viruses? Read for a summary.
With Gus on a llama, Tommy and Bear continue to track the deer child. Bear mentions that the date of Gus̵
As Amy’s children escape through a sewer tunnel, General Abbot and his leg clan move to the zoo. The abbot knows who Amy is and calls her a “collector of crooks.” His goal, of course, is to catch “these little rodents” so that the government can experiment on them. (Hybrids can simply hold the key to humanity’s survival from the virus.) Nature doesn’t want us to go back, Amy says, before lighting a ton of fireworks to repel the soldiers. The abbot orders his men to take it! but all they can find is a note from Aimee that reads, “Happy Disappearance!” What a celebration this Abbot’s doubling would have been … if Bobby and Wendy hadn’t been captured by his maniacs shortly after.
After the abduction of Dr. Singh and his wife, Abbot blackmailed the doctor into cutting some innocent hybrids, telling him that a new wave of “sick” was only coming after a question. “I do not just want to all kinds I treat, I want only cure. And I want all this, “he says, so he can control who lives and who doesn’t. When the healing is his, he will release Rani. Or so he says.
In retrospect, we finally learn of Tommy’s background: He and his wife had a baby, but due to the pandemic and increased military presence, he was not allowed to enter the delivery room. When Tommy first met his son, he realized that his offspring were half-goats. He was considering running away, but after confronting Dr. Singh, Tommy mentioned that he wasn’t sure he could handle it. The doctor replied, “You will be surprised at what you are capable of when it is for someone you love.”
And this is not the only background we were familiar with in this episode. Bear tells Judy that when her parents died of illness, the men came and abducted her hybrid little sister. There were only six of them at the time, and there was nothing Bear could do about it. In turn, she grew into an adult and eventually found someone who shared a similar experience: Tiger. And so her former army was formed. She then says her real name is Becky, but her parents called her “little Becky the Bear.” Judy says she shouldn’t give up on her sister. Not yet, anyway. See how far Gus has come after all.
Tommy finds Gus sitting in an open field near a downed plane, but Gus refuses to return. Tommy returns the Dog, telling the boy that he must stick to what he has from his father. Tommy then tells the boy about his baby and how he had no idea how to become the father of a hybrid. “I was not afraid of him. I was afraid of myself, “Tommy confides. But when he returned to the maternity ward, his wife and child were gone. And he never saw them again.
“Don’t make me lose you, too,” he pleads with Gus. Tommy tells the boy that they can live together in the woods and learn from each other, which sounds like a wonderful plan … to a great extent. boom echoes and the shot Tommy collapses. The army kidnaps poor Gus as he shouts for the “Big Man” to wake up.
Gus is locked in a cage and delivered to Dr. Singh, who is reluctantly preparing to begin his work. When he gives the child candy, Gus says “thank you.” Singh’s face falls completely. He asks Johnny to bring him another patient. Gus is returned to his cage in a room that also contains Wendy, Bobby and so many hybrids. All the children share a big hug as Gus – who has never met others like him before – smiles brightly.
Meanwhile, someone in a red truck grabs Tommy’s body, and as the car pulls away, Tommy’s eyes open. He wakes up to find out that Amy saved him. She tells him to rest and heal, because “tomorrow we will get our children back.”
In one final turn of events, Bear’s satellite phone finally connects to someone in the snowy Alaskan desert. It turns out that this man is Birdie, who is very much alive, healthy and looking for Gus.
