Super Nintendo World opens on February 4 with a trip with Mario Kart

Super Nintendo World – part of the larger theme park Universal Studios Japan – will open on February 4, Universal Studios announced on Monday. It is believed that the theme park will open with two main walks: a walk with Mario Kart and a walk with adventures of Yoshi. In a statement Monday, the companies showed part of Mario Kart’s world.

The journey with Mario Kart will be called the Koopa Challenge, which begins at Bowser Castle. Universal Studios posted some of its own photos of the trip, but you can watch a video tour of the attraction via Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reporter Kurumi Mori said the trip used AR headphones, but was not a free-wheel trip; It is on rails. Each kart has four seats with its own steering wheels. Mori said that “karting is definitely on track”

;, but that “riders get some control” to collect objects and throw shells – as in the video game. She noted that Bowser Castle is where the journey begins, but there are many levels to race through, including lava and underwater worlds, as well as the famous Rainbow Road.

These are the first big details we’ve received about the main attractions, but in October Universal Studios showed off a restaurant and shopping area at the Osaka-based theme park.

Players will wear magnetic bracelets in the park, which allow people to participate in the various “levels” in the park, which is collected with results. How exactly this works is still unclear. Super Nintendo World was originally scheduled to open in the summer, but was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Universal Studios Osaka reopened to locals on June 8 with limited capacity.

Mori noted that Universal Studios Osaka will take special measures because of the pandemic, with mandatory social distancing and additional rehabilitation of the driving headphones.
