Swiss voters approve the purchase of fighter jets for $ 6.5 billion



ZURICH, Sept. 27 (Reuters) – Swiss voters backed a government plan to spend up to 6 billion Swiss francs ($ 6.46 billion) on new fighter jets in a surprisingly close referendum, won by a 50.1 percent majority, Swiss television reported. Sunday

Approving funding for the binding referendum will allow the government to decide next year between Eurobus fighter from Airbus, Rafale from France’s Dassault, Boeing F / A-18 Super Hornet or Lockheed Martin F35-A Lightning II.

The aircraft will replace Switzerland’s aging fleet of 30 F / A-1
