Taco Bell has a new menu item that puts it in competition with chicken chains like Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
Taco Bell said it would begin testing its new crispy chicken auction at Tortilla in Houston, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday before launching the menu nationally next year. Customers can try bidding on a $ 2 taco or get two bids for $ 3 or three bids for $ 4. They can also get them in boxes of $ 5 and $ 7 in the chain.
Taco Bell stated that it had tested more than 100 versions of the chicken auction before deciding on the final recipe.
New chicken tenders are marinated in a mixture of jalapeno, giving them a slightly spicy kick. Cover in tortilla crumbs or serve with new sauce. When Kate Taylor of Business Insider recently tested the new menu item at Taco Bell Headquarters, she noted that the flavor profile of the sauce was somewhat similar to that of Chick-fil-A or Raising Cane's.
Many fast food chains are trying to find innovative ways to serve chicken – whether it's between two Popees buns dipped in Chick-fil-A sauce or dripping in Nashville hot oil – and Taco Bell is no exception.
With the addition of chicken tenders to its menu, the California-based chain is poised to compete with popular chicken chains such as Chick-fil-A, Popeyes and Raising Cane, which have been growing recently. Cane's worldwide sales growth of 22.5% last year, making it one of the fastest growing chains in America, according to Nation's Restaurant News. Meanwhile, Chick-Phil-A reigns supreme as America's favorite fast food chain in a recent Business Insider poll.
However, Popayes made more waves than any other chicken chain in 2019 with his chicken sandwich, which dominated the reboot scene after the initial sale.
We can only wait, waiting to see if the tender Taco Bell chicken will cause just as much movement.
