The findings of a new study on zinc and COVID-1
The researchers also found that high levels of zinc in the blood were associated with lower levels of inflammatory proteins when patients became infected, according to WebMD. In a statement, the team responsible for the study concluded that lower zinc levels were associated with a “worse result”.
“Zinc has long been thought to strengthen the immune system,” Len HorowitzA doctor of medicine, a pulmonologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, told WebMD. “A possible explanation in this study is that zinc may have an anti-inflammatory effect that is protected.”
Other studies have come to similar conclusions. Report published in July in the journal Limits in immunology concluded that, as far as COVID-19 is concerned, “zinc is cost-effective, globally available and easy to use [treatment] option with few or no side effects. “

So how can you be sure you’re getting enough zinc? According to the National Institutes of Health, foods rich in the mineral include oysters, red meat, crabs, beans and nuts.
