Probably no one thought that Taylor Swift’s recent “Vest” and Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You” were similar enough to blend into a mix before Jungblud, but after hearing his string mess, the Folklore artist “It was quick with her approval.
Yungblud mixed the two songs into a segment filmed for the annual month of BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, accompanied by an acoustic guitar and joined by a cellist and two violinists.
Passing Jungblud’s publication on the show, Swift writes, “Well, that took my breath away and I am honored to hear a vest intertwined with the beautiful a masterpiece of “I’m with you”. Well done and thanks @yungblud!! “
Interestingly, Yungblud didn’t stick terribly close to the melody of any of the hits, transposing “Cardigan” on a more cheerful key and rejecting some of the minor chords of Lavigne’s song, inventing a much more cheerful-sounding comparison of the two otherwise more bitter songs.
Yungblud identified the two singers as “my favorite girls” in his original tweet, writing “CARDIGAN x IM WITH YOU … cover my favorite girls @ taylorswift13 n @AvrilLavigne for the live salon @ BBCR1! go watch the full video on youtube and play a committee with “[hearts]show them that you are bhc! #yungbludscardigan. “
Swift has previously visited the salon live for some surprising covers, such as last year’s Phil Collins’ Can’t Stop Loving You.
The native Briton also performed his own song “Strawberry Lipstick”. “Playing Live Lounge has always been a big dream of mine – I had CDs as a kid,” he promised before the show. “It was so crazy to do it last year, but this time I have eight months of repressed energy and a lot of fire. So bring your gas! “
