The boys from Team Z Motorsports in Detroit maintain the classic art of hot roding with a modern twist. The team plans to take one of Ford’s smallest cars, the Foxbody Mustang, and implant it with Ford’s largest modern V8, the all-new 7.3-liter Godzilla V8. Although cramming a large engine into a small car is a familiar recipe, the new ingredients make this an interesting project, as the 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 proves to have great potential for efficiency.

Brian Wolfe is a lifelong racer of the Mustang and a former Ford engineer who at one point was the head of Ford Racing Technology among other impressive titles. His intimate knowledge of Ford’s engineering and passion for racing cars led him to embark on this latest project with the help of Dave Zimmerman, owner of Team Z Motorsports. 7;s new rugged engine right from their F-250.

The Ford Godzilla V8 is a 7.3-liter V8 engine with a slider designed to be durable for extended periods of intensive use in work truck applications. This rugged design is the ideal platform to build a high-performance engine, as the Godzilla V8 arrives over-designed from the factory. The F-250 Godzilla V8 produces 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque.

On the dyno bench with light mods, from Team Z Motorsports, 7.3 produces about 600 horsepower. In its latest iteration with full build for a potentially enhanced application, the Godzilla V8 made an impressive 790 horsepower. We are happy to see how much power this engine produces after it is launched with the 3.0-liter Whipple compressor for which it was created. Estimates are about 1,600 horsepower, which is almost four times the factory power.
