We saw Apple do something similar when it released the iPhone SE earlier this year. It uses the body of the iPhone 8 and the processor from the iPhone 11 Pro, but comes with a price of 399 dollars. This is the most affordable new iPhone you can buy.
Priced at $ 279 (£ 269, AU $ 429), the same can’t be said for the Apple Watch SE. This is because you can still buy(199 pounds, 299 Australian dollars). So, you may be wondering what is the point of the Apple Watch SE?
If you just look at the price, obviously saving $ 80 and getting the Series 3 will be tempting. But you will get a watch that started three years ago and if all goes well, it will expire from WatchOS updates three years earlier than Watch SE.
The Watch SE also contains a more powerful processor than Apple’s older wearables. Think of the SE as the Series 3 with much-needed refresh from the inside. The power supply for the Series 3 is the S3 processor. Below the SE dial is a S5 processor that is twice as fast as the S3 and is the same one found in the Series 5. The newer processor makes the SE more relevant in 2020 and the future. For example, Series 3 does not supportwhich allows you to set up an Apple Watch for your child with parental control for messaging and location tracking. Apple Watch SE does it.
Then there is a display and a body. The Watch SE has a Retina display that is 30% larger than the Series 3. That said, nor does the always-on display found in the Series 6. The SE is available in silver, space gray and gold, while the Series 3 is available only in silver and cosmic gray.
SE also supports features such as drop detection and noise monitoring and is available in both cellular and non-cellular models. Apple only sells the Series 3 in a non-cellular version. Although you may be able to find the cellular version of the Series 3 through other retailers.
The SE also has a compass, a permanently included altimeter (the Series 3 has an altimeter, but not always included), a second-generation optical sensor (the Series 3 has a first-generation one), and a W3 chip for connecting accessories such as AirPods. Series 3 has a W2 chip.
After all, even at a higher price, the Apple Watch SE looks like a better value. But no one will embarrass you for getting a Series 3. You do.
