Asteroid 2021 GM4 is a Goliath of near-Earth asteroids, with a length of 150 meters, which makes it much longer than a large football field (120 meters). A NASA analysis shows that the asteroid is currently traveling through the solar system, traveling at a whopping 6.3 kilometers per second or 22,680 km / h.
The asteroid will make its closest approach to Earth on July 1.
At this point, it will be 12 times farther from the Moon than Earth.
Understandably, this asteroid does not pose a threat to Earth.
But asteroid 2021 GM4 has been registered as “potentially dangerous” by NASA.
The term “potentially dangerous” does not mean that an asteroid poses an immediate threat to Earth.
Rather, it refers to the feeling that somewhere along the line in the future of the solar system, an asteroid may collide with Earth.
There are several unknown factors that could affect the asteroid̵
NASA said: “Sometimes the orbital paths of asteroids are affected by the gravitational tug of the planets, which causes their paths to change.

However, the space agency has taken steps to calm all anxious minds, saying it has not anticipated a major asteroid strike of this size for several centuries.
It says: “NASA does not know about an asteroid or comet that is currently in collision with Earth, so the probability of a large collision is quite small.
“In fact, as far as we can tell, no large object is likely to hit Earth at any time in the next few hundred years.”
