A man who broke into a home in South Pasadena and attacked his estranged girlfriend died after being stabbed and beaten by the woman’s mother and sister on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The man threw a large concrete paving stone through the front window of a house on Block 500 on Five Oaks Drive, went inside and began to strangle the woman and punch her in the face, said Lt. Col. Barry Hall of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman’s mother and sister came to the rescue, stabbing the man with a kitchen knife and beating him with a golf ball, Hall said.

“They tried to withdraw it, but it didn̵

7;t work; he was too strong, Hall said. “So they had to resort to the use of weapons.”

South Pasadena police responding to a report of domestic violence entered through a broken window and found the man pronounced dead at the scene of the South Pasadena incident, authorities said. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Justin Goss, 40, of Glendale.

The 37-year-old woman was taken to hospital, treated for facial injuries and released, officials said.

Authorities say her mother and sister were not charged.

“They had the right to act in defense of their sister and daughter,” Hall said.
