CHICAGO – Normal operations resumed at Midway International Airport after a bag exploded on a belt while loading on an outbound Volaris flight.
Volaris is a low cost Mexican airline. The incident occurred at Gate A2 around 12:20 p.m., Monday.
The level 1 hashmatic situation has been called but has since been cleared.
An airport source told WGN that there was nothing to suggest a sinister motive. Authorities are investigating to determine if any type of battery has exploded.
Chicago police said there were no casualties and no threat to the public.
A Heavy police and fire presence, including various federal agencies, remains at the scene.
