When Apple introduced the iPhone XR a year ago, the company introduced it as a value game that comes with the baggage of a budget phone. (Remember the iPhone 5C ?)

Still, the iPhone 11, which likes XR sports specs lower than the iPhone 11 Pro, debuted Tuesday as the successor to the iPhone XS. Apple's message: It's an iPhone for everyone, while the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max are for professionals and hardcore fans.

"These are the most powerful and stunning iPhones we have ever built," Apple CEO Tim Cook said of all devices. (To be fair, he says such things often apply to Apple products.)

But the time spent on the iPhone 11 is an admission that not everyone has to spend $ 1,000 plus for a new smartphone.

"Trends in smartphone upgrades have slowed down as consumers have fun buying premium devices that start at over $ 1,000," says Linet Luna, a analyst at Global Data. "There is a lack of differentiation and cost-conscious innovation in the minds of these expensive models."

Between the iPhone XR and the iPhone 8, which remains on the market, there are more affordable options for Apple fans who have no cargo disposable income.

This is important as Apple tries to persuade owners of older iPhones – who may not be accustomed to the shocker of their higher-end offerings – to upgrade to a new device.

There is another reason Apple is so eager to get more people to buy their phones: services. The company wants to build its customer base and direct them to deals like Apple TV Plus and Apple Arcade, which the company said will cost $ 4.99 a month on Tuesday.

"Apple needs phones at all levels of the market to get its services playing," says Maribel Lopez, an analyst at Lopez Research.

It is no accident that Apple will give away a year of its Apple TV Plus service if you buy one of its devices.

Switching to more subscriptions changes Apple's priorities. Instead of managing revenue through expensive premium devices, he hopes to generate a smaller but consistent stream of revenue through his services, which is described as the fastest growing part of the company.

The result: more options for a lower price for you when it comes to devices.
