Fox News contributor Jason Schafetz said Big Tech’s actions over the past week against right-leaning voices would not “calm the waters” in the country after the deadly Capitol riots.
“Those of us on the conservative side of the aisle who have lost tens of thousands of followers say that oppression is not a recipe for unity at the same time,” the former Utah congressman told the News Newsroom. “It will not calm the waters and draw air out of this bubble of peaceful transfer of power on the 20th.”

Google also announced on Friday that it would suspend Parler’s list from its Play Store due to a failure to moderate “delightful content” posted by users related to the Capitol violence.
Critics erupted on Twitter to purge conservative accounts, while doing nothing to people like left-wing comedian Kathy Griffin, who has repeatedly posted a photo of Trump holding off his head. The same gesture in 2017 led to a significant reaction to her career.
“There is no way these social media companies can look anyone in the eye and say they have done it on both sides,” he said. “This uneven administration of justice in this country, the uneven application of the way social media platforms have played this out, is simply infuriating people and making the situation worse.”

Chaffetz also criticized the media coverage of the Capitol riots sparked by ardent supporters of Trump, saying he had shown a clear double standard in justifying left-wing violence last summer over Black Lives Matter protests.

“Hypocrisy just drives people crazy,” he said. “Throughout the spring and summer, in the fall, you have seen riots and looting and people destroying federal property. There are conservatives on our right who have called this wrong … Meanwhile [Vice President-elect] Kamala Harris rescues people from prison to get them back on the streets as soon as possible, advocating for compensation without money, and the media does not report about it … This really infuriates. “
