It was roller coaster season at the Boston Celtics. Combined with injuries, safety protocols and poor rotations, the team was unable to escape to the Eastern Conference. Head coach Brad Stevens is currently in the hot spot for Boston’s wrestling. The more his team struggles, the greater the chance that Stevens will be replaced as head coach.
For the most part. Stevens did a great job of turning the Celtics into real contenders again. The pressure on him was to change the dynamics of the organization after the great three epochs of Boston. In Stevens̵
The Celtics certainly deal with injuries. The problem is that Stevens doesn’t seem to be able to motivate his players to play well. Watching the Celtics on the floor, the team was not on the same page at both ends. The chemistry problems are for Stevens because he’s not sure his players are locked up. The horrible play on the floor also spilled into the locker room, where Stevens also seemed out of control.
The Celtics should potentially consider firing Brad Stevens and hiring a new head coach. As a historical organization, it is so long when a team can wait for a coach to secure a championship before it is too late. Stevens seems to have taken that step recently. As Jason Tatum and Jaylan Brown continue to develop as franchise players, the right coach is needed to take them to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, Stevens failed to make a final appearance in his eight seasons. Since the Celtics have teams like Brooklyn and others in their path, their chances of getting out of the East at this point are low.
The next head coach to join the Celtics needs to understand the importance of the team’s valued players. Using role players around the stars is one of the important factors for success. Players in Robert Williams, Peyton Pritchard and others can make a huge contribution to Boston when given the opportunity. As the second half of the NBA season is underway, role-players need to be used more to help the Celtics return to the winning column. Boston is more likely to land a top seed the way it fights. But there is still a chance for the team to end the season with momentum in their favor.
Both Brad Stevens and Danny Eing seem to have a great working relationship. But as Ainge is known to be, he is not afraid to make business decisions that will benefit the franchise. Brad Stevens’ term in Boston must end. As the two Celtics stars continue to grow and mature, Boston’s front office must find a coach who understands what it takes to lead a team to the NBA Championship.
