Earlier this week, Android Police announced that Asus’ online store has revealed that its Asus Chromebook CM3 will soon be available in two configurations. The 64GB storage version is coming soon at $ 369.99, while the 128GB model will cost just $ 20 more. If you can’t wait for your own detachable Asus Chromebook CM3, you can order one now on Amazon and get it this week.
Even better: You’ll save $ 40 over the price of the Asus Store. Amazon sells this device for $ 329.99.
Note that at the time of this post, Amazon is only offering a 64 GB version. I expect this to change in the near future, but will Amazon reduce the 128 GB model? This remains to be seen.
Personally, I would choose the 1
It is also worth mentioning that there are very few differences between the new detachable Asus Chromebook CM3 and last year’s Lenovo Duet Chromebook. They share the same main processor and graphics processor, for example, both have a touch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. Each also comes with 4 GB of memory, a USB Type-C port and support for USI stylus.
In other words, these two tablets with Chrome OS are more similar than different. A Lenovo Duet Chromebook with the same 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage often sells for $ 249.99. This is a $ 50 discount on your MSRP.
However, there are some unique aspects to the detachable Asus Chromebook CM3.
It has a slightly larger 10.5-inch screen compared to the 10.1-inch Duet display. This extra screen space allows for a slightly wider removable keyboard, which based on the video comparison below looks less narrow than a similar Duet keyboard.
More importantly, the Asus keyboard connects to both POGO pins and magnets at the bottom of the screen. This is important if you plan to use this diminutive device on your lap. You will have more stability when writing with CM3.
Asus also includes a USI garage stylus with CM3. You will need to carry your own digital pen in Duet. And there is no place to store it.
The Asus Chromebook CM3 has a great trick that the Duet doesn’t do: its stand can be used in landscape or portrait mode. It’s a smart design and deserves a little premium. I would use it, for example, to read e-books or scroll in portrait mode.
Given that Amazon has CM3 in stock, I would assume that the Asus Store will start accepting orders next week or so.
However, if you want to save a few dollars and don’t mind the 64 GB model, you can get one now from Amazon right here.
