The judge overturned the Pennsylvania virus policies

The governor’s efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus “were made with good intentions to deal with public health emergencies,” Stickman wrote. “But even in an emergency, the authority of the government is not unhindered.”

Courts have consistently rejected challenges to Wolfe’s government to order businesses to close during the pandemic, and many other governors, Republicans and Democrats, have taken similar steps as the virus has spread across the country.

Since then, Wolf has lifted many of the restrictions, allowing businesses to reopen and cancel a government home stay order.

But over the summer, his administration imposed a new round of restrictions on pandemics across the country on bars, restaurants and larger indoor gatherings in response to rising levels of infection in some hotspots of the virus. The state has also imposed a limit on gathering more than 25 people for indoor events and more than 250 people for outdoor events.

A Wolf spokesman said the administration was reviewing the decision.

Pennsylvania reports that more than 1

45,000 people nationwide have been infected with the virus since the pandemic began. More than 7,800 people died.
