Separation from Alabama: We are so closeser for learning the results from historical Amazon’s Bessemer union election, AL composition. The Union of Retail, Wholesale and Department Stores (RWDSU) reports that the National Labor Relations Council (NLRB) has received 3,125 ballots. This means that a majority of about 5,800 workers vote.

No, the number of votes has not yet entered. The NLRB expects the public part of the census, visible to reporters and certain observers through a video call, to begin this afternoon. We do not know how long this will take, but it is safe to assume that the count will take several hours. Each of the more than 3,000 ballots will be counted by hand, one at a time.

As previously reported, some voters may have been inadmissible to participatefor example former employees. Under labor law, Amazon is the only party to provide a list of eligible names for elections. The company provided the electoral list to the NLRB and the union was able to contact people on the list before the census.

In Tuesday, in private census with NLRB, observers (Amazon and RWDSU included) they were allowed to challenge everyone’s names unopened newsletter on grounds, for example, for eligibility or whether voter names match the list provided by Amazon. The disputed ballots are set aside and the NLRB Regional Director may arbitrate each individually after the public census. The NLRB does not share how many ballots are contested, but this pool can change the election, depending on the volume. Observers may further challenge any vote during this process.

The union needs 50 percent, plus one vote, to win.

But if the number of disputed ballots is significant enough – say a pile of 1,000 disputed ballots – the regional director of the NLRB will hold a hearing. They will then decide on the validity of each ballot, or set it aside, or add it to any party.

The next process can take months. We have explainer here.

The election by mail lasted about two months, during which time Amazon made a marshal of an expensive group of anti-union consultants and a common a cleaning agitprop through text message, posters,, postal users,, Twitch ads, and a captive audience meetings. RWDSU said It is rumored that Amazon has photographed the identity badges of workers who dispute intimate anti-union claims.

Once the public census begins, the NLRB will disclose the number of ballots already contested.

The results are expected maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday, maybe far into the future. We will keep you posted.
