The matriarch of the American Family and First Reality TV was 94 years old

Patricia Loud, the matriarch of the Loud family in the TV documentary American family died Sunday of natural causes. She was 94 years old.

7;s death was confirmed on Loud’s official Facebook page. “It is with inconsolable grief that we are sad to share the news with friends and family that on Sunday, January 10, at 1:55 p.m., PT Lud died peacefully in his sleep for natural reasons. She was safely housed in her comfortable home, frequented by loving children Michele, Delilah, Kevin and Grant. “

Loud was born on October 4, 1926 in Eugene, Oregon. He graduated from Stanford University in 1948, where he studied world history and English literature. Upon her return to her hometown, she met William Lowd and they married in Mexico City. Their first son, Alencon “Lance” Russell Loud, was born in June 1951.

She and her family came into the spotlight as one of the themes of the first American reality series. Shot from May 30 to December 31, 1971, American family traces the daily life of the Loud family, an upper-middle-class family based in Santa Barbara. What was originally a look at a strong life has become a series that chronicles the divorce of William and Pat Lud.

At the time, the documentary was a cultural hotspot showing family upheavals and the release of Lance, one of the family’s sons, who was credited as one of the first openly gay television characters. He died in 2001, and William Ludd died in 2018 at the age of 97.

American family first aired in the United States on the Public Television Service and is running for a season of 12 episodes.

During his role in the series, Loud appears The Dick Cavet Show and The Mike Douglas Showas the PBS series had caught the attention of American viewers.

In 2011, Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini immersed themselves in the reality TV series with Cinema Believe. Written by David Selzer, Cinema Believe starred Diane Lane as matriarch, along with Tim Robin’s Bill Lud and James Gandolfini’s Craig Gilbert.

Cinema Believe continued to collect numerous Golden Globe and Primetime Emmys nominations. Diane Lane nodded at the portrayal of Patricia Loud.
