LANCING, Mitch. – The Michigan Restaurant and Housing Association (MRLA) has filed a lawsuit against Robert Gordon, as director of the Michigan Department of Health and Humanitarian Services, to block the ban on serving dinner.
Plaintiffs Heirloom Hospitality Group LLC and HIH Inc. d / b / a Suburban Inns joined the MRLA in the case. They are seeking an urgent pre-order to resume domestic consumption of food and drink indoors.
“We have such a high concentration of community throughout Michigan that this action today is not an order to stay at home, but is aimed at restricting gatherings of closed groups of people,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said when she announced the rules.

MRLA President and CEO Justin Winslow issued the following statement:
“The Michigan Restaurant and Housing Association (MRLA) has filed a lawsuit in federal court for exemption from an order issued on November 15 by the Michigan Department of Health and Humanitarian Services (MDHHS) that bans indoor dining in restaurants for the second time. this year We took this action only after careful consideration and as the last possible option to prevent the complete devastation of restaurant operators and their hundreds of thousands of employees in the country.
We want to be clear that we made several good faith efforts before the public announcement of the order issued on 15 November to reach a compromise with MDHHS that would support the goal of minimizing risk while allowing the dining rooms to continue to operate.
MRLA is committed to significantly increasing the constraints for our industry, including reducing restaurant capacity to 25% and applying a 22-hour evening for the duration of the order. While our proposal would undoubtedly provoke the already troubled industry, it was presented to Director Gordon and the governor’s executive office in earnest to avoid the far worse consequences of a complete closure.
We hope for a quick and decisive victory in court so that restaurant operators can return to what we know they do best – adding value to our lives and our economy by providing great food and exceptional hospitality in a safe way. , socially remote, rehabilitated and regulated environment. “
