Apple’s iPhone 13 line has an accelerated release schedule and some long-awaited features, but the biggest excitement will be focused on two stunning design solutions. And now we can see them for the first time on Apple’s new flagship model.
In a new exclusive, popular YouTuber, Lewis Hilsenteger (also known as Unbox Therapy) has achieved a detailed model of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. And the accents are entirely related to size.
Cameras iPhone 13 Pro Max – much larger
What immediately grabs your attention is the size of the new rear cameras. While the images speak for themselves, Hilsenteger measures the diameter of the caliper modules and compares them to the iPhone 12 Pro Max:
- iPhone 13 Pro Max – 16.99 mm
- iPhone 12 Pro Max – 14.10 mm
This is a 20% increase in size for each camera module, the biggest physical leap in iPhone history. Larger modules mean larger lenses, and larger lenses transmit more light, which increases image quality, especially in low or low light conditions. In addition, every iPhone 13 model is expected to take advantage of these larger lenses. Remarkably, the recent design leak of the iPhone 13 Mini showed that the phone will still have only two rear cameras, but they are similar in size.
Detailed specifications are yet to expire for each iPhone 13 camera, but the ultra-wide is expected to get the biggest leap in quality. It is recommended to switch from five parts, f2.4, fixed focus lens to six parts, f1.8, autofocus. Given that the ultra-wide is the weakest iPhone camera in several generations, this is a very welcome upgrade and portends similarly big leaps from other modules.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Notch – much smaller
The other big change for the iPhone 13 Pro Max is much smaller, and Hilsenteger re-measured it compared to its predecessor:
- iPhone 13 Pro Max slot – 34.62 mm
- iPhone 12 Pro Max slot – 26.31 mm
It’s a 30% reduction in size, and while it’s not the endless game everyone wants, it’s a huge discount for a device that packs all the components of Apple’s class-leading Face ID technology.
Apple has achieved this by moving the handset / speaker to the top panel of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and positioning the Face ID modules just below it. This layout does not save any depth, but removes the entire length of the speaker from the slot.
iPhone 13 Pro Maximum size
However, what hasn’t changed much is the overall size of Apple’s next-generation iPhone:
- iPhone 13 Pro Max – 160.85 x 78.08 x 7.52 mm
- iPhone 12 Pro Max – 160.80 x 78.10 x 7.47 mm
All of these measures are in error and, somewhat surprisingly, there was a similar story with the thickness of the iPhone 13 Pro Max when it included its rear cameras (10.36 mm) compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max (10.28 mm). The button layouts were also identical, while the lighting port remained, despite rumors of a reckless model coming this year.
Needless to say, there are still many gaps here. Hilsenteger’s iPhone 13 Pro Max can’t answer questions about the 120Hz ProMotion displays that come in Pro versions, the potential return of Touch ID, or the like for expired internal changes that include next-generation 5G modems, increased WiFi speeds and range, MagSafe 2.0 and greater energy efficiency.
On the other hand, with the production of the iPhone 13 much earlier, it seems that you may have to wait only 2-3 months before Tim Cook confirms them on stage.
