The owner of the Long Island pizzeria joins the growing list of tourists who died suddenly in the Dominican Republic.
Vittorio Caruso, 56 from Glen Cove, died on June 17 while he was in Boca Chica resort in Santo Domingo, USA. State Department confirms Fox News Friday
His daughter-in-law, Marie Caruso, said he was in good health when he suddenly entered respiratory distress after "drinking something."
"We were told he was not" Responding to all the medications they gave him and died, "Lisa Maria Caruso told Fox News, adding that the family expects the autopsy results. "Honestly, I do not know exactly what happened, as they tell us contradictory stories from different people there."
Like the families of others who died in Dominican, Caruso said local authorities have given vague answers on how seemingly healthy close unexpectedly fallen sick on a vacation in the Caribbean nation.
"It's very difficult to get a good story from anyone there," she said. "They even wanted to cremate the body. We insisted the body be sent here. "
