SpaceX founder Elon Musk speaks at a press conference after the first launch of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States, February 6, 201
"Our goal is to determine whether the US Air Force has adhered to the New Service Release Certification Guide when certifying that the release system is intended for launch vehicles of the SpaceX Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy class. Deputy General Inspector of Defense Michael Roark said in the note.
The review will begin this month, says the note.
In December, SpaceX's spacecraft, carrying US military naval satellites, dropped out of Cape Canaveral in Florida, marking the first US space mission in the US.
The successful start was a significant victory for billionaire Musk, who for years had been trying to penetrate the profitable market for military space shots dominated by Lockheed Martin Corp. and Boeing Co.
Mussh's private company said last month it would cut its workforce by about 10% of more than 6,000 company employees, citing "extremely challenging challenges."
