The prestigious consulting firm McKinsey & Co. advises Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, to offer a rebate to distributors when a patient overdoses OxyContin in part “to counteract emotional messages from mothers with teenagers who have overdosed” New York Times reports. According to the bankruptcy court, the consulting company made a proposal in a presentation in 2017 on how to increase sales of OxyContin, even when overdoses jumped across the country. CVS and Anthem said they had never received such discounts, but McKinsey had previously persuaded Purdue to market OxyContin aggressively. The pharmaceutical company will continue to be held criminally responsible for promoting this drug. Purdue would later ask McKinsey to “dismantle”
