ROANOKE, Va – The Virginia Ministry of Health said that the cases of coronavirus are increasing in the health districts of Roanoke City and Alegani.
During his weekly update, Dr. Molly O’Dell discussed with the Virginia Department of Health an increase in hospitalizations, deaths, and outbreaks in the Roanoke Valley.
As of Tuesday, there are 18 outbreaks in the region, 10 of which are in a business environment.
O’Dell said the increase in cases and outbreaks was due to a lack of implementation of the COVID-1
“We found business practices for both screening and social distancing, and adherence to the use of facial coverage has significantly weakened,” O’Dell explained
She said the increase comes at a bad time as health workers also begin to prepare for the flu season.
These two health districts include the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Alegani, Boteturt, Craig and Roanoke.
