The Trump administration has reportedly confiscated four Iranian cargo ships believed to be carrying fuel in violation of US sanctions.
The United States has seized the four ships without using military force in recent days as tensions between the White House and Tehran have risen, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The ships – named Bering, Bella, Luna and Pandi – are currently being diverted to Houston, where White House staff will be waiting to arrive, newspaper sources said.
Fuel tanks in the Persian Gulf region became intact after the United States withdrew from the countries’ 2015 nuclear deal in 2018.
The Trump administration has accused Iran of suspected heavy mine attacks on several tankers and earlier Thursday called on the country to seize a Liberian-flagged oil tanker in international waters in the Gulf of Oman.
Last month, the United States sought the approval of a federal court to seize four Iranian fuel tanks destined for Venezuela, according to a newspaper.

It is unclear whether these four ships were the same vessels seized this week.
