The United States is threatening to destroy Iranian missiles sent to Venezuela

EXCLUSIVE: The United States warns that it will destroy potential Iranian shipments of long-range missiles delivered to the Maduro regime in Venezuela, a senior administration official told Fox News.

“The transfer of long-range missiles from Iran to Venezuela is not acceptable to the United States and will not be tolerated or allowed,” said Elliott Abrams, a special spokesman for the State Department for Iran and Venezuela.

“We will make every effort to stop the supply of long-range missiles, and if they somehow reach Venezuela, they will be eliminated there,”

; a senior administration official added.

The officials did not provide information that such shipments were forthcoming. They only claimed that Iran and Venezuela were a likely couple for arms deals.

“Iran has announced its intention to engage in arms sales, and Venezuela is an obvious target, as the two pariah regimes already have a relationship,” Abrams said. “Venezuela pays with gold to buy gasoline from Iran and has an Iranian presence in the country. Venezuela’s economy has collapsed, so every gold bar for Iran is tens of thousands of dollars needed by the Venezuelan people for food and medicine.”

The UN embargo on the purchase and sale of conventional weapons to Iran expired last week. The Trump administration has tried unsuccessfully to persuade the UN Security Council to extend the embargo.

“Iran has sent missiles to the Hutus, so we know they are ready, willing and able to send them to Venezuela and other potential buyers,” the administration official said. “Any supply of Iranian weapons destabilizes South America and the Caribbean and is especially dangerous for Venezuela’s neighbors in Brazil, Colombia and Guyana.”
