The United States commemorates the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the English colony of Virginia 400 years ago.
Hundreds of thousands of Africans would soon follow from what is now known as Angola.
The memorial comes at a time when the US president is accused of creating a culture in which white nationalism and racism can flourish.
