After sinking tons of hours into the third episode of Death Stranding, you've probably collected a lot of useful gadgets and upgrades that extend your range of tools in all sorts of ways (big shouts to Bola pistols and Skeleton Power). But have you ever wondered why Sam's Death Stranding backpack is always open, exposing his precious load to the wild and unpredictable elements of Timefall in the world? If you ask us, it looks rather unprofessional to an expert concierge.
But what if we told you it was possible to unlock a lid that fits around your backpack – something to keep all these high-priority supplies? Well, this is only for the load directly within your backpack and not placed above it, but still, the upgrade of the backpack cover is an invaluable tool that is especially useful in late game deliveries when faced with intense meteorological conditions . How to get the backpack cover
The backpack cover is available to receive after you begin making deliveries at the Distribution Center south of Lake Corner during the Episode 3. This is the closest landmark to an optional dash known as The Collector, which you can connect to the Chiral Network. This way, they will reward you with your rucksack and subsequent upgrades.
To locate the manifold, head slightly southeast 400 meters from the distribution center south of Lake Knot City on the right side of a crevice that runs perpendicular to the distribution center. Remember to bring a ladder with you – you will need it. Keep in mind that you send several scans to Odradek along the way to check for a lost cargo marked with the Collector so you can carry it to him. It is worth taking in advance if you have the opportunity.
Along the crevice to see a small path leading down, take it, and continue walking along the bottom and right, until you reach some pools of water and a MOLN scan pylon. Stand close to this pylon and look up and north, and on the wall you should see a cartoon cartoon fox. Put your ladder here and head upstairs to meet the Collector. If you are actually familiar with the Japanese game magazine Famitsu, then you may recognize the Collector's likeness as the former editor-in-chief of Hirokatsu Hamamura magazine. And this Fox on the wall? This is the magazine's mascot.
You must increase your value with the collector to unlock the backpack cover. If you have not found a lost cargo marked with the collector before you arrive, then do not worry. Interaction with its terminal should give you command to steal several game consoles from the MULE camp nearby. Complete this delivery and it should give you more orders to help strengthen your rank with it to unlock the backpack cover.
As stated above, the cover fits only around the main compartment of Sam's backpack. Any excess cargo will be stacked on its backpack and exposed accordingly to Timefall. The lid itself comes in two flavors: a first-level version that comes in shiny silver, and a two-level, durable version that is eye-catching gold! Despite its limitations, the backpack cover is a lifesaver and an upgrade you should not miss.
