Top 10 of Buster Olney for 2021 – Ranking of the best MLB teams

Fingers crossed that the 2021 MLB season would start on time – and that we would see some live baseball at the stadium this year.

While we wait, Buster Olney completes his annual ranking of the 10 best players in each position, which focuses on the upcoming season – based on the contribution of appraisers from the industry – with a view to the full teams. With more moves still to come, which team is number 1 (and 2 … and 3 …) on paper right now?

Teams

Many of the traditional rivalries of baseball are inactive. The Red Sox are being rebuilt, and the Yankees, without pressure from Boston, have not yet made aggressive moves this winter. The Cubs cut wages and traded their best starter, Yu Darvish, and the Cardinals̵

7; most important decision was to turn down the opportunity for second baseman Gold Glove Kolten Wong. The Giants are at least a few years away from the Dodgers challenge. Astros and Athletics are experiencing the departure of some of their best players – Oakland looks set to lose Liam Hendriks, while George Springer looks set to leave Astros.

In this vacuum, we now have the Dodgers and San Diego Padres, clubs that live in the same division, play balls 125 miles away and have the best talent collections – and here’s the bonus: When they’re on the field, at least those two teams seem to don’t like them very much. The Dodgers have won the National League West in eight consecutive seasons, and the Padres, after grabbing Darvish and Blake Snell, are heading straight for the Los Angeles San Diego wants what the Dodgers own.

As a senior official said the other day, the Dodgers are clearly the best team in baseball, but the Padres are in second place. Their games will be a must-see next year.
