Toyota Revs Up Lineup with new 302-horsepower RAV4 Prime
• The most powerful and fastest RAV4 ever • The most efficient RAV4 ever • Estimated 0-60 MPH in 5.8 seconds and approximately 90 MPGe • Offers Available in SE and XSE model grades • Available color front display, RAV4 first • Premium design features • New for model year 2021 and available in summer 2020
LOS ANGELES (November 20, 2019) – The fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 on offer only a year on the market, occupying more seats than ever before. The arrival of the first ever RAV4 TRD Off-Road model was announced earlier this year, and today, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota debuts a new premium, fun-to-drive RAV4 performance model with an estimated 302 horsepower, refined all-wheel drive, sport-tuned suspension and exclusive design features. It just happens to be the first of its kind RAV4 hybrid electric car (PHEV). So, in addition to the ability to do 0-60 mph in an estimated 5.8 seconds, which is the second fastest acceleration time in the Toyota range, it can only run approximately 39 miles on a single charge, which is the highest EV range of any SUV PHEV on the market. The RAV4 Prime also has 90 combined MPGe, according to the manufacturer. Welcome to the new Toyota SUV performance chapter.
The Toyota RAV4 Prime, model 2021
The resulting increase in performance is astounding: Toyota projects acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, which is faster than the RAV4 Hybrid (7.8 seconds) and in league with luxury / production SUVs, which are nowhere near this Toyota remarkable fuel economy. And, in particular, the RAV4 Prime uses regular grade gasoline – just not much of it. Comparison with the older RAV4 offers a vivid illustration of the technology march. The 2006-2012 RAV4 offers an optional 3.5-liter V6 269hp petrol engine that reaches 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds, which is half a second slower than the RAV4 Prime. And that 21 MPG combined fuel economy rating just goes down.
Toyota and Sporty have designed the 2021 RAV4 Prime for the performance-oriented driver and therefore offer it in the SE and XSE sports classes. The SE level is new to RAV4 Prime, and the XSE is currently exclusive to the RAV4 Hybrid. SE picks up its sporty attitude by 18 inches. painted and machined alloy wheels and exceptional front grille and front lower spoiler design. Piano-black exterior accents and a painted grille / diffuser complete the premium look. SE equipment is quite comprehensive, with standard heated front seats, 8-way lumbar driver's seat, 7-in. Multi-information display, blind spot monitor, leather steering wheel and red stitch knob, power lift and 8-inch audio. touch screen and Amazon Alexa, as well as compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The available time and moon roof package allows for sun, moon and stars while keeping the cold adjacent to the heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, and the windscreen wipers are removed while the windscreen wipers feel extra comfort.
As with the current RAV4 Hybrid XSE, the Prime version of this class features a two-tone paint scheme for exterior black roof paint with select colors, including the spectacular new RV4 supersonic red. An exceptional 19-inch. The alloy wheels, the largest ever offered on a hybrid RAV4, have a unique two-tone design. Vertical LED accent lights give the XSE a distinctive look, while the optional Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) with automatic headlight control partially guides the beams while cornering while driving.
Inside, the XSE enhances sport, luxury and technology with the first ever RAV4 paddle shifters, along with the moon's roof, unique SofTex synthetic leather seat surfaces, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting, auto dimming rear view with integrated garage door opening and largest multimedia screen in each RAV4. The standard Audio Plus system comes with a 9-inch. touch screen and Premium Audio is available, which includes dynamic navigation and a JBL speaker system. The Premium package available presses the RAV4 Prime XSE additionally with Premium Audio with dynamic navigation and JBL speakers, SofTex perforated and ventilated front seats, the first RAV4 front display, heated SofTex rear seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic moon roof, digital rearview, digital rear view memory driver's seat, 4-way passenger seat, 5-door SmartKey system, powerful rear kick lift, bird view monitor and yes, and more.
How is this done? Toyota hybrids have been showing high performance with low fuel consumption for years, and now the 2021 RAV4 Prime is one of the strongest cases so far. The RAV4 Prime uses a different tuned version of the RAV4 Hybrid's 2.5-liter Atkinson Hybrid four-cylinder petrol engine. It produces the same estimated 176 hp as in the hybrid, but combined with the electric motors, the total power of the system is 302 horsepower. The passenger space of the RAV4 Prime is not compromised by the larger lithium-ion battery as it is installed under the floor. The mounting position also gives the RAV4 Prime a low center of gravity and improved driving stability. The advanced HVAC system for the RAV4 Prime heat pump, based on the Prius Prime and adapted to fit the RAV4 Prime, contributes to increasing the EV range, as the consumption of cabin temperature control energy can significantly reduce the EV driving range.
Electrified Traction The RAV4 Prime uses the same version of the Electronic Wheel Drive (AWD) as the RAV4 Hybrid. In both models, a separate rear-mounted electric motor feeds the rear wheels when needed, including actively when starting acceleration and also under reduced traction conditions. The AWD system also reduces the low steering angle for greater steering stability.
AWD off-pavement enhances hill climb performance. Driver-selectable Trail mode allows it to detach itself by stopping the rotating wheel and sending torque to the ground wheel. With paddle switches available, the driver can "lower" down to increase regenerative braking, which enhances greater control, for example when driving in hilly areas, such as
As with the RAV4 Hybrid, the innovative feature for predictable efficient drive acts as an invisible hyper-mill driver. Using the available navigation system, Predictive Efficient Drive essentially reads the road and learns driver models to optimize hybrid battery charging and discharging operations based on driving conditions. The system accumulates data as the vehicle drives and "remembers" road features such as hills and congestion and adjusts hybrid drive performance for maximum efficiency.
All Toyota RAV4 models come equipped with the standard Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0), which groups a long list of active safety technologies and capabilities: • Pedestrian Recognition Collision System (PCS w / PD) • Dynamic Full Speed Cruise Control (DRCC) • Lane Departure Assist Signal (LDA w / SA) • High Beam Automatic Light (AHB) • Lane Tracking Assistant (LTA) • Traffic Sign Assist (RSA)
XSE Premium Package Adds Rear Stop Rear Traffic (RCTB) and Assists Automated front and rear parking brake (PA w / AB). Beginning with the 2020 model year, each Toyota Hybrid Battery Warranty is extended from 8 years or 100,000 miles to 10 years from the original first use date or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
