Tristin Bailey’s death: Suspected mother in teenage murder, accused of rubbing her son’s bloody jeans, authorities say

Crystal Smith, 35, has been booked into custody in St. John’s County, St. Augustine, Florida, with a $ 25,000 bond, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Her son, 14-year-old Aiden Fucci, was charged last week as an adult with first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of 13-year-old Tristin Bailey, prosecutors said. Authorities have stabbed her more than 100 times, according to authorities.

According to the arrest warrant from the sheriff’s office, deputies interviewed the boy with his mother, who was present at their residence on May 9, after Tristin was declared missing. Surveillance from home shows that after the teenager left with deputies, Smith went to her son̵

7;s bedroom, took out a pair of jeans, took them to the bathroom and seemed to rub them in the sink, according to the order.

Later, during an interview at the sheriff’s office, Fucci’s parents asked him about everything that would be on his clothes from the night before, the order said.

“(Smith) asked AF if he was sure there was nothing on them, AF replied” I think why? “(Smith) can be observed by giving AF a questioning look and whispering ‘Blood,'” the order said.

The jeans were located during a search of the home and were tested positive for blood, the order said. A leak in the sink in the bathroom, where Smith was seen rubbing his jeans, was also positive for blood, according to the order.

“Crystal Smith will be held accountable for her role in this case and justice will be done for Tristin Bailey and her family,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release Saturday.

Smith was arrested shortly after noon on Saturday and was released less than two hours later, according to the restaurant’s website. CNN is working to determine if there is legal representation.

Her arrest comes just under a month after Tristin’s body was found on May 9, hours after her family reported her disappearance in St. John’s County, Florida, the sheriff’s office said. She has at least 49 defensive wounds to her head, arms and hands, according to RJ Larizza, a state prosecutor in the 7th round.

“To say it’s horrible can be done as an understatement,” Laritsa said.

Fucci was initially charged with second-degree murder in connection with Bailey’s murder, but the charge was upgraded to first-degree murder due to the nature of the crime, Laritsa said.

Witnesses told authorities that Fucci claimed he intended to kill someone by taking them into the woods and stabbing them with a knife, prosecutors said. Earlier, Laritsa said the teenagers were seen on video surveillance on the day of Bailey’s disappearance together.

CNN tried to contact a lawyer for the boy from the St. John’s County Attorney’s office, but received no response.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation was ongoing.
