WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said Monday that he fired the head of the Tennessee Valley administration, saying the executive received too much pay and hired foreign workers.
Trump told White House reporters that he was formally removing the board chairman and another board member and threatened to remove other board members if they continued to hire foreign labor.

He said the TVA board should immediately hire a new CEO who “puts the interests of Americans first.” According to Trump, the CEO earns $ 8 million a year.
“The new CEO has to be paid no more than $ 500,000 a year,” Trump said. “We want TVA to take action on this issue immediately. … Let this serve as a warning to any council appointed by the federal council: If you betray American workers, you will hear two words: “You have been fired.” “
U.S. nonprofit technicians seeking to restrict visas granted to foreign technology workers pulled out an ad to persuade Trump to stop TVS from outsourcing much of its IT department. The group, led by Kevin Lynn, criticized television for shutting down its own workers and replacing them with contractors using foreign workers with H-1B visas.
Trump made the announcement after signing an executive order requiring all federal agencies to conduct internal audits to prove they do not replace skilled U.S. workers with people from other countries. The White House said the order would help prevent federal agencies from unfairly replacing American workers with lower-priced foreign labor.
The order followed TVA’s announcement that it would assign 20% of its technology jobs to companies based in foreign countries. TVA’s action could cause more than 200 highly skilled U.S. technicians in Tennessee to lose their jobs to foreign workers on temporary work visas, according to the White House.
But Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee said TVA did not receive money from taxpayers. Commenting on the issue in April, Alexander said the White House was spreading misinformation. He said that the salaries of TVA’s CEOs were lower than other major utilities and that TVA’s energy levels were among the lowest in the country.
