One day after the controversial Turbo Building update, Epic brought the Turbo Building back to where it had been previously corrected with a few changes.
Well, it didn't take long.
Epic reversed its decision less than two days after the Turbo Build update, changing the mechanics to where it was before v10.20.
However, the setup was not as simple as the restore. Epic actually changed the construction mechanic to help prevent the turtle and neutralize the ping advantage that has been so obvious since the start of competitive Fortnite.
Epic published a blog on August 28 outlining changes to the Turbo building and what's next for mechanics. [1
The new Turbo Build
Here are the updates listed in the Epic blog post:
- Turbo build time for subsequent tracks were changed back to 0.005 * seconds by 0.15 seconds.
- After destruction of the structure, there will be a timer of 0.15 seconds before another piece can be placed in the same place.
- If two players attempt to place a piece at the same time and place where the piece has just been destroyed, an arbitrary roll will determine whose piece was placed instead of ping playing such a large role.
Now, ping has almost nothing to do with whether you can take a wall or not. In theory, half the time you take for a wall and the other half your opponent will retain the wall.
More importantly, the 0.15-second Turbo Build timer still applies when trying to replace a structure. SMG frames will continue to flow and you will still be shredded by Minigun.
In general, this change is a profit. Those who hate Meta Turtles are given a way to break through without compromising the rest of their build capabilities.
Gradual Crossing Through Walls
As you can see, gradual passage through walls is now almost 100% successful. You don't have to use any mean tactics or exploits to do this. All you need is a ramp on top and a pickup.
It looks like it was yesterday, but the current mechanics of Turbo Build seem to be here for the long haul.
How about that – Fortnite won't die after all. Now all Epic has to do is remove the fur and we'll be golden.
