Earlier this week, Twitch removed his hugely popular emotion Pogchamp, used to express excitement in the chat, after the face of emotion, Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, encouraged additional “civil unrest” after the uprising in the Capitol building. Now, just two days later, he replaces the likeness of Gutierrez with a complex plan that is honestly, quite crooked.
Today on Twitter, Twitch announced how he will deal with Pogchamp’s emotion from now on.
“You know what? In the spirit of co-inventing 2021, let’s just hang around with it for now!” The company wrote. “Get ready for a new Pogchamp every 24 hours, starting today.”
Today’s Pogchamp fights fighting game expert Kenny “UnRoolie” McWild, who before that he threw his hat in the ring to be de facto Pogchamp’s substitute. Tomorrow could be anyone, but I guess it will probably be someone else who is already a volunteer on Twitter.
Pogchamp’s spinning idea was originally proposed by longtime playmate Sean “Day9” Plott soon after Twitch removed Pogchamp’s original emotion.
It’s not hard to see why Twitch liked the idea: If he chose one person to be Pogchamp’s new face, this streamer would almost certainly face harassment and other forms of unwanted attention. In this way, Sauron’s Eye of the harassing sea heads should at least look around a lot, instead of focusing its rage on one place. However, this does not necessarily prevent people from following the streamer of the day and opens up new possibilities, such as Twitch, giving the spotlight to a streamer that turns out to have a problematic story. However, this is new territory, so there is no way to say how it will actually turn out. This is probably the worst part of all.
