Confirming on Tuesday that Ranaut’s account has been suspended, Twitter explained its policy.
“We were adamant that we would take decisive action regarding behavior that could lead to offline harm.
“The forwarded account has been permanently suspended due to repeated violations of Twitter’s policies, in particular our policy of hateful behavior and abuse policy.”
Ranaut, winner of several national film awards, opposed Twitter’s actions in a statement.
“Twitter just proved my point. “They are Americans, and by birth a white man feels entitled to enslave a brown man,” she said.
“They want to tell you what to think, say or do, fortunately I have many platforms that I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema, but my heart goes to the people of this a nation that has been tortured, enslaved and censored for thousands of years and is not yet the end of suffering. “
