Type 2 diabetes causes a person's body to lose control of the amount of blood sugar (glucose) in the blood. The body does not respond properly to insulin and may not produce enough, causing blood sugar levels to become too high. If left untreated, complications that can occur include kidney failure, nerve damage, heart disease, and stroke. So, what can you do to lower your blood sugar or keep it under control?
Eating a healthy diet is one way to manage blood sugar levels.
There is nothing to eat if you have type 2 diabetes, but certain foods should be restricted.
The NHS advises: "Eat a wide variety of foods – including fruit vegetables and some starchy foods such as pasta, minimize sugar, fat and salt and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day ̵
the first meal of the day, the breakfast, the one food you may want to consider eating is guava.
Some evidence suggests that tropical fruit may improve blood sugar control.
A number of tube and animal studies have shown that guava extract improves blood sugar levels, long-term control of blood sugar, and insulin resistance.
Several studies involving humans have also shown impressive results.
One study of 19 people found that drinking guava lead tea lowered blood sugar after a meal. The effects lasted up to two hours.
Another study in 20 people with type 2 diabetes found that drinking guava leaf tea reduced blood sugar levels after eating by more than 10%.
Weight loss, if you are overweight, also makes it easier for the body to lower blood sugar levels.
It has been proven that guavas also help in this sense.
One fruit contains about 37 calories and is a good source of fiber, making it a filling, low-calorie food.
Along with eating a healthy diet and losing weight, it is also important for one to be active.
The NHS says: "Exercise helps lower your blood sugar. You should aim for 2.5 hours a week.
"You can be active everywhere, as long as what you go on will leave you breathless.
"This can be a brisk walk, a flight of stairs and some more chores or gardening. "
Adding a certain superfood to your diet can also help lower blood sugar.
