Ultimate Ears launches wireless headphones that mold your ears

For a long time now I have had terrible problems finding a headset that really fits my strange little ear canals. In fact, I begged my colleagues to solve this problem just this week. So I’ll admit that my ears twisted when I caught the wind on an upcoming ear from Ultimate Ears, which claims to be “moldy to fit perfectly on individual ears in less than a minute.”

I will admit that the process by which the real wireless pimples aptly named UE Fits, actually pull this sounds pretty wild. Using an accompanying application, the headphones use gel-filled tips with built-in LED lights to map the contours of your ears before they harden to perfect shape – all in less than a minute. Ultimate Ears claims that this mounting system creates a comfortable fit “without pressure, pain or irritation, even after prolonged use”.

Meanwhile, the outside of the handset is a pill-shaped capsule just over an inch long, available in light gray, lilac and dark navy blue. Because of the way they fit, Ultimate Ears says they are able to block ambient noise. They themselves will provide up to eight hours of listening on a single charge, but will last up to 20 hours with extra juice from their USB-C charging case. And the company says it will receive a Bluetooth signal up to about 50 feet.

They are sweatyproof and water resistance, which is nice if you are one of the people who use headphones while training (and their fit should in theory be ideal for this as well). As for built-in controls, you can start and stop music, as well as answer calls from the headset itself. But Ultimate Ears says the accompanying app allows you to customize button controls for things like voice assistant support and song skipping. The appropriate UEs are currently available in advanceorder and will be shipped later this fall.

Unfortunately, these custom pimples aren’t very cheap: they retail for $ 249, so they’re exactly on par with Apple’s AirPods Pro. But maybe – just maybe! – This will be the wireless solution to my long-standing ear problems. And heck, I’ll try everything at this point.
