Chapel Hill, NC “University officials sent a signal Friday morning that an armed and dangerous man was near the University of North Carolina on the Chapel Hill campus.” At around 12:30 p.m., officers sounded a “perfectly clear” alarm, saying the gunman on campus was no longer a threat.
Officials said it was now safe to resume normal activities.
The dangerous man was near the Outpatient Care Center near UNC Hospital on Mason Farm Road, university officials said.
Campus police are asking if anyone sees anything suspicious to call 911 immediately.
Initially, university officials asked students, faculty, and staff to go inside and close their windows and doors.
