Boxing with the highest rank

Boxing fans will enjoy this weekend as they will not be forced to rummage in their wallets to watch one of the best fights of the year. Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will finally be a battle that has long come, while Vasily Lomachenko meets with Teofimo Lopez to unite the titles in the lightweight category. Even better? It will be available to watch on free TV, unlike a battle of this scale, which is usually thrown behind the wall with pay-per-view.

Lomachenko (1

4-1, 10 KO) went from arguably the greatest amateur boxer in history to be placed on the fast track as a pro, fighting for a world title only in his second professional bout. He would suffer a loss in this battle, dropping Orlando Salido’s split decision. He bounced back in his next fight, deciding on Gary Russell Jr. and winning the WBO light heavyweight title. Eventually, he would advance to the juniors in the lightweight category and then in the lightweight category, winning belts at each weight. He currently holds WBA and WBO world titles.

Lopez (15-0, 12 KO) did not enter the professional ranks with the same noise level as Lomachenko, but quickly proved to be a new star with a flashy style and serious skills. In addition to a flat performance in winning a decision against Masayoshi Nakatani, Lopez impresses every time he enters the ring. Most recently, Lopez won the IBF Championship with a stunning second-round knockout of Richard Comey in December.

It will be a busy week leading up to one of the most lucrative battles of the year.
