Vitamin B12 Supplement: Four facial marks that indicate you are deficient in nutrients

The first course of action is to determine if you are deficient in vitamin B12 or not. According to Dr. Rajendran Kannan, his research shows that there are four signs of the condition of your skin. These include skin hyperpigmentation, vitiligo, angular cheilitis and hair changes.

The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology explained that hyperpigmentation is when “spots on the skin become darker in color than normal surrounding skin.”

“This happens because melanin absorbs the energy of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays to protect the skin from overexposure,” explained the College of Dermatology.

The NHS explained that vitiligo is where “pale white spots develop on the skin.”

The opposite of hyperpigmentation is that a lack of melanin causes white spots.

This condition usually occurs on the face, neck and arms, as well as in the folds of the skin.

Angular cheilitis

Angular cheilitis is a condition that causes “red, swollen spots in the corners of the mouth,” WebMD explained.

DermNet NZ added that the symptoms of angular cheilitis can include painful cracks, crusting, leakage or bleeding.

Hair change

Dr. Kanan’s research states that “hair changes” are “related to [a] vitamin B12 deficiency “.

Hair changes – as well as hyperpigmentation, vitiligo and angular cheilitis – “are not specific to [a] vitamin B12 deficiency only “.

It is better to deal with the underlying vitamin B12 deficiency as soon as possible.

This is because some of the symptoms can become “irreversible if left untreated.”

Your vitamin will decide if vitamin B12 supplements are the right treatment for you.

In severe cases of vitamin B12 deficiency, injections of B12 may be needed instead of supplements.
