After being delayed earlier this year, the colorful puzzle platform of Sony Concrete Genie will finally come to PS4 on October 8 against $ 30.
Kotaku was first visualized Concrete Genie created by one of the smallest original studios Sony, PixelOpus, at E3 2017. At that time, game director Dominic Robillar said the idea was originally born of a whole work of art ustvoto depicting child standing up to bullies using a large creatures painted on the wall behind her.
Since this E3 demonstrator, the game has had more time to assemble and it looks like it took longer than originally anticipated. History trailer was released this spring and the game slowed from the first half of the year to the second. Last week I had the chance to try out a new demo set at the very beginning of the game, showing the city of Densk where Ash, the main character of the game, lived. The place is carved and economic failure in after the massive oil spill. Ash's mission is to bring some semblance of life back to the empty streets with his magic paint brushes that can paint scenes and even bring to life mysterious genius graffiti that can get rid of obstacles blocking the player's path.
After I finished playing the latest demo, Robilliard explained to me that one of the keys to nailing this experience is to get players feel like having art that was created, although what can be created is extremely limited. Selecting objects which can draw, as a flower or the sun, not the specific type of brush of the brush. But their precise shape and quality relies on how you gesture with Dualshock 4, making the connection feel a little more intimate. Once a part of Denska has been cleared, the camera goes through it, showing all the artwork you have created with dazzling details.
PixelOpus clearly knows that this is the power of the game, today announcing that Concrete Genie will have a special Photo Mode feature that allows players to create "reps" of their graffiti .
Although ] Concrete Genie is visually stunning, I was not completely convinced during my limited time with the game that this creative process will provide enough deep well from which to take for an entire game. In this way, bullies harass you while drawing, adding a slightly challenging wrinkle, but it looks like a rather shallow stealth supplement. The virtual reality part I tried was a separate mode from the main game, using a stationary drawing mechanic to populate a 3D area with trees, grass and warm sun. It was sweet, but not something that looked like a mandatory addition to the library of PSVR for someone.
There was also something else that looked special. Earlier, Robilliard hinted at a turnaround that happened later in the game and as I saw it, I can say without spoiling anything that it is consistent with the rest of the game: it is a visually striking and interesting story development , which shows that there is more to Densky than meets the eye first.
